Well hello! Welcome to my blog on wellness and life enjoyment. I plan to post on topics promoting your health and the health of your families. and while we’re at it, I’d like to tackle some ideas on making life a little easier.
I am an infertility specialist and love my work. It’s a little like being a fairy godmother, except my wand is attached to an ultrasound machine. In the course of my work, I’ve become aware of a hunger among my patients for high-quality information regarding their health issues online. Too often, information comes from blogs written by lay people and are limited to the writer’s own experience or from chat rooms. These formats can be great for support, but when I ask my patients where they got their information, and what the credential are of the source, the most common answer is “I don’t know”. People deserve access to high quality, easy to understand information about their health. I will try to provide that here.
The second purpose of this blog, getting it all done, also arose from work. A large part of my work involves teaching medical students and residents. Guess what the most common question is? A hint, it’s not medical in nature. Young professional women want to have their careers and families, too. But they are concerned about how to advance in a demanding career such as medicine and still raise their children. Young doctors in training are aware of the research regarding the importance of home and family life on children’s well-being. Yet they don’t want to stifle their own gifts that could help so many others also learn to care for themselves and their families. And let’s be honest here, it’s only the women who are asking. It’s not that male medical students don’t want families, they do, very much so. They just don’t worry about it. There seems to be an assumption that someone will figure it out. I wonder who that someone could be?
So, I will be writing on topics that are of interest to you. Let me know if there is a time-management or health care issue that you have questions about. I’ll draw my topics from today’s news. I also hope to draw some discussion from you, my readers, as well. While I won’t be able to dispense specific medical advice, this blog can provide you with information to live your healthiest and happiest life.
